Weekend Wrap Up... and other stuff

This past weekend was fairly low-key, which is always nice after a busy week. Friday night we celebrated Jennifer's birthday at Hemmingways Lounge in Hollywood. I had never been there before, but it was really neat inside. The lights are very dim and the walls are bookcases filled from floor to ceiling. (Check out images here: http://www.hemingwayslounge.com) It was a fun night of socializing and dancing with a really great group of people.

It was so dark inside, which made it hard to keep your eyes open when the flash went off. Consequently, many photos did not turn out very well. We look like we're sleeping standing up! Here's a couple that turned out semi-decent:

A few of us with the birthday girl, Jennifer (sitting to my right).

Kelly, Hannah and me.

We deemed Saturday for being lazy, and Sunday for a day of rest. (That's how Sundays are intended to be, right?) Saturday night, Matt and I rented a couple movies, made Pad Thai in our Wok (that we're slightly obsessed with) and got fro-yo. (Yogurtland and Blockbuster are only a few blocks away from me. This is both a blessing and a curse, especially considering frozen yogurt isn't necessarily healthier than ice cream.) We rented Madagascar 3 and Rock of Ages - unfortunately, we did not care for either. Matt sees literally every movie ever made, making it hard to rent a movie he's never watched. Hence the movie selection. Regardless, we made the most of it and had a lot of fun.

I also took a couple neat pictures of the sunset while we were out and about...

The American flag was "glowing" in the sunlight.
(It looked much better in person.)

Driving through Hollywood

Sunday we planned on going to the tree lighting at The Grove. They make a huge spectacle of it complete with musical performances, fireworks, fake snow and, of course, Santa! Unfortunately, Matt came down with a little flu bug late Sunday afternoon, so we weren't able to go. Luckily, they have The Grove decorated like a Winter Wonderland from now until Christmas. We were there for a movie a few days prior and saw everything being set up. I can't wait to go back and see the transformation! I took a few pictures of the set up.. Keep scrolling to see :)

Outside the theatre. The stage is to the left.

The life size gingerbread house where Santa will be!

The Christmas tree is on the left (unlit).
The other trees were covered in lights, too.

A little about The Grove Tree Lighting:
  • The Grove Christmas Tree is a 110-foot tree that is lit every year.
  • It is the tallest Christmas tree in the city of Los Angeles.
  • The Southern California tradition began in 2002 - the same year the Grove at Farmer's Market opened.
  • It marks the kickoff of the LA chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation's annual "Season of Wishes" campaign.
  • Just as NBC televises the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting in New York City, the Grove Christmas Tree lighting is telecast live every year on KCBS-TV in LA and is syndicated to hundreds of television stations across the country.
  • This year, performances included Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, Sean Kingston, Robin Thicke, Il Divo, Lauren Alaina, Jackie Evancho, and more!

As far as "other stuff" goes, we're getting a lot of press interested in the big jump! After the feature on GMA, it took off like a wild fire. I've included links to some of the bigger features. There's more great things to come, but those remain a secret for now :) I can hardly contain my excitement!
